What Happened to Jessie J? Breast Cancer Diagnosis Explained

British pop star Jessie J has revealed that she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. The announcement came via an Instagram post, where the Grammy-nominated singer opened up about her ongoing health journey. The diagnosis arrived just before she released her vulnerable track “No Secrets” in April 2025.

Jessie J reveals breast cancer diagnosis

On June 3, singer-songwriter Jessie J, whose real name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, shared with her followers that she was diagnosed with early breast cancer shortly before releasing her song “No Secrets.” In her words, “I’m highlighting the word early. Cancer sucks in any form but I’m holding on to the word early.” The diagnosis came as a surprise during a busy period in her career, and she admitted to being in and out of medical tests since then.

Despite the seriousness of the news, Jessie said she had not fully processed the diagnosis because of her workload, but felt a need to open up. “I just wanted to be open and share it because selfishly, I do not talk about it enough… Sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support, and also their own stories.”

The British star also spoke about how surreal it felt to be dealing with such a heavy personal issue while promoting songs titled “No Secrets” and “Living My Best Life.” She even joked about doing a remix called “Living My Breast Life,” saying, “You can’t make it up.”

Jessie J, known for hits like “Price Tag,” “Domino,” and “Bang Bang,” emphasized that her breast cancer diagnosis does not mark a full stop but just a pause. She assured fans that more music is on the way. Her latest track, “Living My Best Life,” released on May 16, is part of her upcoming sixth studio album. “These last 2 months have been so amazing, and having this go on alongside it on the sidelines has given me the most incredible perspective. BUT… Your girl needs a hug.”
