Taylor Swift’s Masters Are Now Officially Hers

Taylor Swift‘s long and arduous battle to win back the rights to her music is finally over. Swifties all around the globe are now flocking to the internet to celebrate the victory revealed by the pop icon this week. Fans are eager to get all the details of when and how it came about.

So, without further ado, here’s everything to know.

Taylor Swift’s ownership of her masters explained

On May 30, 2025, Taylor Swift shared a heartfelt personal note on her official website, announcing the big news. The pop legend revealed that she has officially bought back the rights to her entire catalog from Shamrock Capital.

Swift’s catalog landed with Shamrock on November 16, 2020, when it purchased the rights from Scooter Braun and Ithaca Holdings. More than five years later, the master recordings have now returned to its rightful owner.

“I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening. I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me,” Swift penned.

She further expressed her immense gratitude towards all her fans for their support. Swift also gave a shoutout to Shamrock for “being the first people” to make the offer. Although the singer has kept the financial details of the deal under wraps, according to Billboard‘s sources, the catalog sold for close to $360 million.

However, as per a Page Six report, the amount could be much higher. Scooter Braun’s purchase of Big Machine Label Group in 2019 gave him legal access to Swift’s music. The transaction started the highly publicized feud between the pop star and the producer.

Two months after the deal, Swift announced her decision to remake all her albums, giving rise to the Taylor’s Version era. It included fresh renditions of her popular albums Fearless, Speak Now, Red and 1989.

In the personal note, Swift also broke her silence on whether the Taylor’s Version of her debut album and Reputation will ever see the light of day. “Those 2 albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about,” clarified Swift. “But if it happens, it won’t be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have. It will just be a celebration now,” she concluded.
