T.G.I.S Star Red Sternberg Passes Away at 50

90s sitcom star Red Sternberg has reportedly passed away on May 27. His wife, Sandy, confirmed Sternberg’s death on Facebook with a heartfelt tribute. The T.G.I.S. star was 50 at the time of his death.

Red Sternberg dies at age 50

TV star Red Sternberg died on the morning of May 27, his wife, Sandy, revealed on Facebook. The wife of the actor shared, “It is hard to find the words right now to say that this has been the most difficult time I have ever gone through in my whole life.”

Sandy added, “To those who knew him from his early acting days, he was “Kiko,” but to our three kids and I, he was simply Daddy/Dada.” His wife also revealed that the actor passed away three days before his birthday. On May 30, Sternberg would have celebrated his 51st birthday.

Rodwick “Red” Sternberg got his breakthrough role in the ’90s Filipino teen drama, T.G.I.S. (Thank God It’s Sabado), wherein he portrayed the character of Kiko. A few days before Sternberg’s tragic demise, he had posted a throwback picture of the T.G.I.S. cast on Instagram.

The director of T.G.I.S, Mark Reyes, also took to Instagram to pay tribute to Sternberg’s Kiko, whose iconic lines have stayed evergreen. Reyes gushed, “The entire T.G.I.S. Barkada is heartbroken to lose one of our own.” He added, “Kiko we love you and we’re giving you a group hug right now.”

Additionally, fans are also paying tribute to their beloved Kiko, who has left an impact on the 90s teens’ lives. A T.G.I.S. fan posted on X (formerly Twitter), “From one of my favorite barkada shows in the late 90s— TGIS. Thank you for being part of our growing years, Red Sternberg, aka Francisco Martin “Kiko” Arboleda De Dios. You will be missed.”

Another user noted, “Our ’90s hearts are breaking today. Rest in peace to T.G.I.S. star Red Sternberg. Love, light, and prayers to the friends, family, and fans he left behind.”
