Britney Spears addresses smoking on plane incident

Britney Spears has spoken out after facing backlash for smoking on a plane. She reportedly lit a cigarette on board a May 22 flight, going against aviation regulations. The incident occurred on a JSX chartered flight from Cabo San Lucas to Los Angeles. Although she put the cigarette out when asked by flight staff, the incident still led to official intervention upon landing.

While the charter company declined to comment, Spears took to Instagram the next day to share her perspective. In a May 23 post, she seemingly described the incident as humorous. She wrote, “Me yesterday !!! It’s actually incredibly funny !!!”

In the post, she described feeling “clear and smart” after having vodka for the first time and joked that she assumed smoking was allowed on the plane because of its setup. Spears wrote, “Some planes I’ve been on you can’t smoke mostly but this one was different because the drink holders were on outside of seat !!!” The singer added, “My friend put it in my mouth and lit it up for me so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE !!!”

Spears also expressed frustration with a flight attendant whom she claimed acted strangely and overstepped personal boundaries. She wrote, “The flight attendant called officials because I smoked a cigarette !!! And embarrass me which jeez I thought was kinda much but she didn’t like me the moment I got on plane.”

Spears apologized to anyone who may have been upset by her behavior. Though the incident ended without any formal charges, when the plane landed, officials issued her a warning for violating regulations.
