Alan Jackson made a major announcement during his Last Call: One More for the Road Tour stop in Milwaukee on Friday, May 17. Standing before the crowd, the country music icon revealed that the concert would be his final tour performance.

Jackson told the audience, “Y’all may have heard that I’m kinda winding down, and in fact this is my last road show of my career.” After the extended applause from audience, he said, “Y’all gonna make me tear up out here” (via Parade).

While the announcement marked the end of his touring career, Jackson offered fans one final moment to look forward to. He revealed plans for a farewell concert to be held in Nashville next summer.

The singer said, “We’re planning on doing a big finale show in Nashville next summer sometime. It just felt like I had to end it all where it all started. And that’s in Nashville, Tennessee. Music City.” In addressing the crowd, Jackson also expressed gratitude for the support he has received throughout his career.

Jackson’s announcement followed his touching performance of “Remember When” at the ACM Awards on May 8. Since 2011, he has openly shared his struggle with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a genetic condition that impairs nerve function.

In a 2021 interview on the TODAY show, Jackson shared that the illness runs in his family and that it has made performing increasingly challenging. He said, “And I know I’m stumbling around on stage and now I’m having a little trouble balancing even in front of the microphone, and so I just feel very uncomfortable, and I just want people to know that’s why I look like I do.”
