Tom Cruise Talks About Making Movies Till He’s 100

Tom Cruise’s recent red carpet comments have reignited buzz about his future in movies and Hollywood following the premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. As the actor marks the end of his iconic Ethan Hunt role, he made it clear that retirement isn’t on the horizon, declaring he plans to make movies well into his 100s.

When asked by The Hollywood Reporter about continuing to make movies and act into his 80s, Tom Cruise responded, “I actually said I’m going to make movies into my 80s; actually, I’m going to make them into my 100s.” He added, “I will never stop. I will never stop doing action, I will never stop doing drama, comedy films — I’m excited.”

Cruise, now 62, walked the red carpet for the eighth and final installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. He confirmed this chapter as the last for Ethan Hunt, stating, “It’s the final! It’s not called ‘final’ for nothing.” This statement echoes a quote from two years ago, when Cruise cited Harrison Ford as an inspiration for continuing his action career into old age.

Speaking on the nearly 30-year franchise, Cruise said, “There’s been so many levels of reward with the filmmakers that I’ve collaborated with, the crews, the people, the cultures… Everything that I’ve learned and continue to learn about storytelling, about life, about leadership, about character and every aspect of filmmaking. It’s been exceptional.”

Regarding his stunt work, Cruise noted, “There’s a lot of pre-stunt rituals that keep me alive — it depends on what I’m doing and the amount of preparation I have to do.”

Christopher McQuarrie is the director of The Final Reckoning, which premiered at Cannes on May 14. Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Pom Klementieff, and Angela Bassett star alongside Tom Cruise. The action star made his comments as the film continues its international rollout ahead of its U.S. theatrical release on May 23.
