Fans divided over Meghan Trainor changing lyrics
Meghan Trainor is facing criticism for changing the lyrics of her 2014 breakout hit “All About That Bass.” The change was made to reflect her recent weight loss. The change came during her performance at the 2025 iHeartRadio KIIS-FM Wango Tango event in Huntington Beach, California.
Wearing a bold pink rhinestone two-piece, Trainor took the stage and surprised fans by switching one of the song’s most recognizable lines. Instead of the original, “Yeah, it’s pretty clear, I ain’t no size two,” Trainor sang, “Yeah, it’s pretty clear, I got some new boobs,” referencing her breast augmentation earlier this year. The moment was captured in a 29-second video shared on the official 102.7 KIIS FM social media accounts. This quickly drew attention online.
Fans were divided over the change, especially due to the fact that the original song promotes body acceptance. One user commented, “Yeah, I feel like she shouldn’t be allowed to sing this song anymore[…] her body doesn’t represent the song anymore.” However, some fans defended Trainor’s decision.
The lyric update comes after a series of physical changes that Trainor has spoken openly about. This includes her breast lift and augmentation surgery in early 2025. She has also discussed her use of the weight-loss drug Mounjaro following the birth of her second child.
In April, following her Billboard Women in Music “Hitmaker” honor, Trainor addressed ongoing comments about her appearance. Calling it “disheartening,” she expressed frustration that her looks were dominating the conversation. She wrote, “It’s a little disheartening that so many of the questions (and comments) were focused on my body instead of my music, my passion, or the decade of hard work that got me here.” (via The Independent)
