Blake Lively & Ryan Reynold Didn’t Attend Met Gala 2025

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds‘ decision not to attend the 2025 Met Gala has raised eyebrows. Fans are wondering whether their absence was due to Lively’s ongoing legal battle with It Ends with Us director Justin Baldoni.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds skip Met Gala three years in a row

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds opted to skip the 2025 Met Gala, and it has sparked curiosity, with sources giving various reasons for their absence.

A Us Weekly source previously said that the choice not to attend the event is not unexpected, adding, “She’s not a Kardashian that goes every year.” An exclusive source previously confirmed to PEOPLE that the couple haven’t attended the Met Gala since 2022, and they will not be attending in 2025 either.

Meanwhile, TMZ reported that their decision to skip this year’s Met Gala had been made well before the lawsuit involving Justin Baldoni. Their absence had “nothing to do” with the legal battle. Neither Lively nor Reynolds has publicly addressed skipping the Met Gala.

Despite not attending the high-profile event, Lively has been busy with her career. Recently, she has been promoting her film Another Simple Favor. The actress also attended the TIME 100 Gala with Reynolds on April 24, where she was honored as part of the 2025 TIME 100 list.

On Instagram, she had expressed gratitude for the honor and wrote, “Thank you @time And thank you @sherrilynifill for one of the most surreal and meaningful moments of my life in this honor. My 10 year old self is pretty blown away right now.”

Their absence from this year’s event comes as Lively and Reynolds continue to deal with legal drama connected to It Ends with Us. In December 2024, the Gossip Girl alum filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, the director and co-star of her movie It Ends With Us. Baldoni responded by filing a $400 million defamation lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds, and their publicist Leslie Sloane.
