The ongoing legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni has been making headlines since last year. While fans of both stars have taken sides, Paul Feig, the director of Another Simple Favor, has stepped forward to defend Lively. He also cleared the air around the controversy linked to the movie.
Another Simple Favor director comments on outrage against Blake Lively
Paul Feig, who directed both A Simple Favor and its sequel Another Simple Favor, publicly expressed his frustration over the backlash surrounding Blake Lively.
Amid widespread online speculation and resurfacing rumors about on-set tensions, particularly between Lively and co-star Anna Kendrick, Feig offered clarity and strong support.
In a candid interview with Esquire, Paul Feig labeled the outrage over Another Simple Favor star Blake Lively as “boring.” He said, “Blake is an amazing collaborator, so when I read people’s misconceptions about how movies are made, it’s just frustrating for me.” Feig went on to explain that Lively, like all stars he’s worked with, is deeply involved in the creative process, contrary to what critics may assume.
He added, “The idea that a star just shows up and you go ‘Here’s the script’ – please point me to one movie star who works that way.” Addressing the general public reaction, Paul Feig further said, “Outrage is the most boring emotion humans have these days. When it’s towards something meaningful, that’s great. But people get outraged at everything.”
“So when the gang on the internet get [up in arms] about something, it’s just like, guys, you don’t know what you’re talking about. I love working with Blake – she’s just the best,” Feig added.
Feig’s defense arrives in the wake of the legal battle between the It Ends With Us stars. Last December, Blake Lively submitted a formal complaint to the California Civil Rights Department, alleging sexual harassment by Justin Baldoni during the filming of the movie. She also claimed that Baldoni orchestrated a smear campaign against her prior to the film’s release. In response, Baldoni sued Lively, Ryan Reynolds, their publicist Leslie Sloane, and The New York Times.
