Bill Hader reveals he ruined Titanic ending and lost his job
During a recent appearance on Netflix’s Everybody’s in L.A. with John Mulaney, Bill Hader shared a hilarious story. He revisited his early years when he was fired from the theater for spoiling the ending of Titanic.
When asked if he had ever been fired from a job, Hader responded that he had been let go multiple times. However, one particular incident stood out for him. He explained that it happened back in the late ‘90s, just before Titanic was officially released in theaters. The comedian said that a sorority had rented out the entire theater and was blocking the entrance. When he politely asked them to move, they mocked him, saying he looked like Charles Manson.
Hader added, “So when they went in, as I tore the tickets, I was like, ‘Enjoy the movie. The boat sinks at the end. Leo dies.’” When the girls asked whether he was serious, he added, ‘Yeah, you think he’s asleep. But he’s frozen.’
He recalled that sometime later, his manager came over smiling and fired him. The comedian said about the manager, “He loved it. Couldn’t look me in the eye, though.”
Previously, Hader, known for creating the popular character Stefon during his time on Saturday Night Live, was noticeably missing from the show’s 50th anniversary special. His absence left many fans disappointed. According to a statement his representative gave to Variety on February 18, Hader was unable to attend due to a “longstanding scheduling conflict.” However, no further explanation was provided.
