Dakota Fanning has revealed her first-ever photo with younger sister Elle Fanning on Instagram for the Maleficent star’s 27th birthday. The Taken star captioned the photo, writing, “Our first photo together 27 years ago today.
I was asleep in the delivery room during Elle’s birth, so I can really say we have been together from the start. What an honor that has been, and I can’t wait for the rest. HBD @ellefanning I love you.” The younger sister, aka Elle Fanning, responded to the sweet birthday wish promptly, writing, “I love you, Cody.”
Fans also loved the bond of two sisters who’ve been open about sharing their dynamics and how they inspire each other. Elle has talked about watching Dakota on-screen ever since she was a toddler and its impact on her. And for Dakota, Elle’s growing up meant finding someone who can also pick her up in the tough times.
Dakota told The Cut in an interview, “[Elle] has her emotions on her sleeve, and people would say she’s a free spirit. I’m more of that stereotype of the older one who keeps everything together and is pragmatic.” She continued, “But the dynamics shift as you get older — there have been times when I’ve fallen apart and been wild and she’s picked me up.”
Elle has also talked about Dakota’s influence on her ever since she was young. The Primetime Emmy-nominated actress gushed over her bond with her sister in an interview with Glamour UK, saying, “I’m so lucky that I have that, especially as she’s (Dakota) four years older, so I’ve had this built-in role model to admire and look up to and balance my choices against the choices she made” (via Glamour UK).
She added that ever since she was young all she “wanted to do was just anything that” Dakota did, so she “just followed her everywhere.” Talking about whether she gets any good advice from Dakota, the actress shared, “She gives the best advice. She’s very wise. She’s very honest.”
