Seth Rogen Avoids James Franco While Naming Freaks and Geeks Friendships

Seth Rogen recently reflected on the bonds he formed during his time on the popular show Freaks and Geeks, but he noticeably avoided mentioning his former friend and co-star James Franco. While reminiscing about his long-standing friendships on The Drew Barrymore Show, Rogen highlighted several former co-stars but left out Franco, with whom he previously had a strong friendship.

Seth Rogen leaves out James Franco’s name in interview

Seth Rogen seems to have carefully avoided mentioning James Franco while remembering Freaks and Geeks during his appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. While discussing the lasting friendships he formed on the show, he highlighted connections with former co-stars like Martin Starr and David Krumholtz but left out Franco, his longtime collaborator and friend.

Promoting his new comedy series, The Studio, Rogen expressed gratitude for working with familiar faces. He said, “I feel great and so lucky that I work with so many people I’ve known for so long. A lot of the people on that show I’ve known for a very long time.” He highlighted his bond with actors like David Krumholtz, whom he met at 16, and Martin Starr, whose wedding he attended. Rogen also praised his bond with filmmaker Steven Spielberg and actor Paul Rudd, with whom he worked on multiple comedy hits. Additionally, he acknowledged Frida Perez, who worked as his assistant before becoming a writer and co-creator of The Studio.

However, Franco’s name was notably absent. The two had featured together in films such as Pineapple Express and The Interview. However, their professional relationship ended after Franco faced allegations of sexual misconduct from former students at his acting school in 2018. He denied the claims.

After that, Rogen publicly distanced himself. In a 2021 The Times interview, he stated, “I despise abuse and harassment and I would never cover or conceal the actions of someone doing it, or knowingly put someone in a situation where they were around someone like that.” He also admitted he had no plans to work with Franco again. Meanwhile, in a 2024 Variety interview, Franco admitted they had not spoken, despite his attempts to reconnect.
