Val Kilmer’s death was confirmed by his daughter, actress Mercedes Kilmer, in a statement to The New York Times. Mercedes shared that Val died from complications from pneumonia on Monday, April 1, 2025, in Los Angeles. She further revealed that the actor was surrounded by his family when he took his last breath.

After his death, many actors came forward to pay their respects to Val in heartfelt notes.

Avengers: Endgame actor Josh Brolin posted on Instagram to remember his friend, sharing an image of the two of them. He wrote, “I’m going to miss you. You were a smart, challenging, brave, uber-creative firecracker. There’s not a lot left of those. I hope to see you up there in the heavens when I eventually get there.”

Top Gun: Maverick actor Danny Ramirez also posted a short note for Val on his Instagram story. He recalled the time he spent with the legend on the set of Top Gun: Maverick and wrote, “He was nothing but kind, joyous and playful. I felt lucky to be in the same room. A brilliant and generous performer and one of the coolest to ever do it. Rest in peace, Val.”

Michael Mann, the director of Heat, spoke to USA Today and said, “While working with Val on ‘Heat’ I always marveled at the range, the brilliant variability within the powerful current of Val’s possessing and expressing character. After so many years of Val battling disease and maintaining his spirit, this is tremendously sad news.”

Severance’s Adam Scott also posted an image of Val on his Instagram and mentioned a heart emoji in the caption.
