Ariana DeBose Addresses Post Seemingly Aimed at Rachel Zegler

Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose clarified that her Instagram post quoting Jonah Platt on narcissism was unrelated to her West Side Story co-star Rachel Zegler, despite fan speculation. Previously, DeBose’s post, which read, “Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged,” sparked backlash. Viewers connected it to Zegler’s ongoing Snow White controversy involving Jonah Platt and his father, producer Marc Platt.

Ariana DeBose has deleted a post that fans speculated to be about Rachel Zegler. After deleting the post regarding narcissism, DeBose also issued a brief statement on Instagram. The 34-year-old actress clarified that she did not “research” the origin of the quote.

DeBose explained, “I post quotes all the time and thought this one was meaningful.” She further stated that she did not know the quote’s connection until it was pointed out to her. The Primetime Emmy-nominated actress noted that she has “no intention of inserting myself into a news cycle.” She added, “This is not the first time I’ve posted about dealing with narcissism, and it probably won’t be the last, but next time I’ll be sure to clarify its origins first.”

For the unversed, the “narcissism” quote that sparked negative fan reactions emerged from Jonah Platt‘s controversial Instagram comment. The son of Marc Platt had written an elaborate Instagram comment that seemingly criticized Zegler’s political statement on X (formerly Twitter), stating the Snow White star’s “actions clearly hurt the film’s box office.”

The Broadway actor also claimed that Zegler “hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires.” His final line of the elaborate comment read, “Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.”

Following Platt, Sean Ono Lennon, son of John Lennon, also took a dig at Zegler on X in a now-deleted post. After acknowledging that Zegler’s “vilification” has “gone too far,” he called her a “spoiled, ungrateful, and disconnected brat.” Previously, Lennon had praised both Gadot and Zegler as “exceptionally beautiful women” on the platform (via Independent).
