Hilaria Baldwin’s recent comments about her relationship with stepdaughter Ireland Baldwin have drawn attention online. Speaking on a new episode of The Baldwins, she opened up about their dynamic, shared history, and unusual age gap.
Here’s what she said about their connection, how it began, and the moments that have shaped it.
Hilaria talks about humorous relationship with Ireland Baldwin
Hilaria Baldwin said her relationship with Ireland Baldwin is “unique for a stepmom and stepdaughter,” citing their 11-year age gap. “I didn’t raise her, and we find tremendous humor in that.”
On the March 23 episode of The Baldwins, Hilaria explained, “We FaceTime all the time, we talk all the time, but we haven’t actually met up” until Ireland’s recent trip to New York (via PEOPLE).
She added, “We got all the kids together for a play date this morning,” referring to Ireland’s daughter Holland and Hilaria’s daughter Ilaria, born just 11 months apart. Hilaria said, “My baby is Holland’s aunt, and Holland is my baby’s niece.”
Reflecting on their first meeting, Hilaria said, “Before I was her stepmother, when I met her I first had a conversation with Alec, and I said, you know, ‘If she doesn’t like me, I am not staying ’cause I’m not going to be the wicked stepmother.” She emphasized, “My place in life is not to come into a family and cause problems.”
She recalled telling Alec, “I love you, and I’m loving our relationship, but I have too much respect for the family,” and that Ireland “immediately welcomed me. It was so easy. We’ve never fought.” Hilaria further added, “She has a mom that she has a very good relationship with, and so my job wasn’t to come in and parent.”
She added, “I was very lucky that I came into their family. Kim, Alec and Ireland were at a place where everybody had moved on, and there was a place of being settled.” Back in 2019, Hilaria said, “I think that’s one of the smartest things I’ve ever done… I’m never going to put my nose where my nose doesn’t belong.”
Hilaria and Ireland gave birth less than a year apart, in September 2022 and May 2023, respectively.
