The Real: Why Was Tamar Braxton Fired?

Tamar Braxton’s firing from The Real in 2016 left fans and even her co-hosts surprised. While the show’s producers called it a “mutual parting,” reports later revealed that her exit was the result of multiple factors, including negative audience feedback, on-set conflicts, and advertiser concerns.

Here’s a closer look at why Tamar Braxton was fired from The Real.

Why was Tamar Braxton let go from The Real?

A key reason behind Tamar Braxton’s firing from The Real was reportedly the unfavorable feedback from focus groups conducted by the show’s producers.

As The Real prepared for its third and fourth seasons, executives sought input to improve the show. However, the feedback about Braxton was reportedly far from positive. Daily Mail‘s sources revealed that many viewers, particularly educated and working women, found her behavior and language unrelatable. They described her as “ghetto” and criticized her use of drag queen-inspired vernacular and mannerisms like eye-rolling and neck-rolling.

Furthermore, Braxton’s behavior behind the scenes also reportedly contributed to her being fired. Reports indicated that she frequently clashed with the executive producer and had outbursts that required intervention from her husband, Vincent Herbert, or her co-hosts.

Additionally, advertisers also reportedly played a part in her exit. The show’s sales team reportedly warned executives that brands did not want Braxton featured in their segments due to her alleged antics, including a controversial incident involving Pinterest.

In an interview with Steve Harvey, Braxton opened up about the moment she learned about her dismissal. Even she didn’t have answers to why she was fired from the show. “I wish I knew,” she said. “I wish I could sit here and tell you that it was negotiation issues. No, ‘cause I wasn’t negotiating. I wish I could tell you that [I wanted more money].” She continued, “I really honestly don’t know, and I feel like that is what is bothering me ‘til this day” (via Essence).
