Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were blessed with their son, Chester “Chet” Marlon Hanks on August 4, 1990. In a recent interview with Bustle, Chet spoke about how his family being in the show business meant that he would end up in the same industry. “My dad’s an actor. My older brother’s an actor. My mom. This was the family business. So I [knew] that was something I would go into at some point.”
During an interaction with Bradley Martyn on his Raw Talk podcast, Chet opened up about his struggles with addiction in his teenage years and how it affected his parents. “I don’t blame them,” he said. “They were misled as well, and they were manipulated by these [troubled teen] industries … that are just now starting to be exposed almost 20 years later” (via Closer Weekly).
In an interview with ET in 2018, Chet also stated that his parents were “supportive” during his sobriety journey. “Every step of the way… They’ve always been there for me and I’m really lucky.”
