Microsoft has spoken about the PS4’s sales figures being compared to the Xbox One’s, saying that the company looks at the two system’s comparative success as a “marathon, not a sprint”.
The PS4 has currently shifted more units worldwide than the Xbox One, though Microsoft’s Phil Harrison has stated that he is unconcerned by this, and pointed to Titanfall‘s success as an indicator of the Xbox One’s future.
Speaking to VultureBeat, Harrison said: “We’re 120 days into our platform lifecycle. You know better than anyone that this is a marathon, not a sprint. We’re happy with our plan.”
He continued: “We’re happy with the performances of our key franchises and key partnerships, most notably Titanfall in the last couple of weeks. You can see independent surveys and studies showing our sell-through doubling in the U.K. as far as hardware. We have a fantastic lineup we’ll reveal more of at E3 and beyond. We have a lot of great surprises to come.”
As we previously reported, the release of Titanfall led to a staggering 96% increase in Xbox One sales in the UK, proving that Microsoft were right to put their full backing behind Respawn Entertainment’s new FPS.
When asked how well he believes the Xbox One is performing at this stage in the console’s life cycle, Harrison replied: “Things are going great. It’s the fastest, most successful launch in our history. Titanfall is blowing the doors off, literally and figuratively.”
He also stated that on average Xbox One owners use their console more than five hours per day which, in Harrison’s own words, is “amazing”.
