The interconnected worlds of UFC and MMA havenât exactly taken Hollywood by storm, but theyâve been gaining strategic acceptance thanks to the critically acclaimed (but sadly underperforming) Warrior, the critically shamed (but sadly overperforming) Here Comes the Boom, and the general understanding that Gina Carano is the new action heroine du jour, or at least the new Michelle Rodriguez, after Haywire and Fast and Furious 6.
The latest example is Tapped Out, a new revenge thriller starring relative newcomer and five-time World Karate Champion Cody Hackman as a young man out to avenge the deaths of his parents under the tutelage of Terminator star Michael Biehn. Directed by first-time feature filmmaker Allan Ungar, Tapped Out co-stars UFC veterans Krzysztof Soszynski, Anderson Silva and Lyota Machida, making the filmâs cast, at least, an obvious draw to fighting fans the world over. It also stars original Karate Kid bad guy Martin Kove. You know, that âsweep the legâ guy? âDefeat does not exist at this dojo?â That kind of thing? Heâs still weaseling his way into the lives of young fighters with a grudge in Tapped Out.
