MrBeast, who holds the record for most YouTube subscribers, has shared an intriguing statistic about the content-sharing site. On social media, he revealed that a considerable portion of human time was spent watching content on YouTube. His post garnered widespread attention and sparked a variety of reactions.
MrBeast shares ‘crazy’ statistic about human time spent on YouTube
On X (formerly Twitter), MrBeast shared that 2% of human time was now spent browsing YouTube, which he deemed “crazy.” As of writing, the post has garnered 2 million views and 42k likes. It was also reposted 1.9k times.
The tweet received a variety of reactions. One user suggested that since 2% of human time was spent watching YouTube videos, 1% was spent watching advertisements.
“2% of human life spent on YouTube,” another user added. “The other 98%? Watching reels.”
Meanwhile, another user shared a detailed understanding of the statistics from their perspective. They claimed that “2% of human time spent on YouTube” wasn’t simply data but a confession. Elaborating, the user said that human attention wasn’t lost but monetized. Furthermore, they suggested that people were not being entertained by videos and that their attention was simply getting harvested. “They don’t want your time. They want your loop,” the user continued. “The part of you that scrolls after you forgot why you picked up the phone.”
The user stressed that MrBeast did not break the internet but strategically planned his content based on algorithms. They added that 2% of human existence was spent watching advertisements between engineered stunts funded by a hypocritical system.
“It’s not crazy. It’s working exactly as designed,” the user continued. “And the beast isn’t him. It’s the machine you thank for giving you something to do while your memory dissolves.”
YouTube has come a long way since its inception. While it was originally a site for simple video-sharing, it has since become a behemoth of content creation — complete with varying types of content like livestreams, reels, and long-form videos encompassing multiple subject areas ranging from cooking to gaming. Accordingly, viewership and time spent on the site have increased, with many checking YouTube at least once a day.
