Two-time Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim shared an update on her injury that she sustained just a month before the 2026 Winter Olympics. The snowboarder made a social media post revealing that she suffered a dislocated shoulder during her second day of training in Switzerland before the LAAX Open Winter Cup event that takes place between January 14 and 18. The injury threatens to take her out of the upcoming Olympics in Milano Cortina, where she could earn a third Olympic gold medal in women’s snowboarding halfpipe.
Kim is “trying to stay positive” about her shoulder injury
Posting a video on Instagram, Chloe Kim shared how she sustained the shoulder injury on “the silliest fall.” It shows the 25-year-old athlete speeding toward the side of a halfpipe but falling prematurely and being pushed headfirst up against the wall.
The good news is that Kim is scheduled to receive an MRI on Friday, January 9, to understand the extent of the injury. She says that she is “not in that much pain” and that she still has “range” in her shoulder. However, she admits that her shoulder keeps “popping out.”
Still, she writes in the caption of the video that’s she is “trying to stay positive” about the injury. “I have gone through so many waves of emotions I literally have a migraine,” she shares. “The only thing I can do is rest/do everything in my power to come back as soon as possible.”
Kim remains confident about her conditioning otherwise. “I feel really good about where my snowboarding is at right now,” she says in the video. “I know that the minute I get cleared and good to go, I should be fine. I’m just hoping that doesn’t take too long.”
Fortunately for Kim, she has already qualified for the 2026 Olympics in women’s snowboarding, so it looks like her spot on the U.S. Olympic team is still secure.
