Bridget Regan was hospitalized after suffering from food poisoning while filming The Rookie Season 8 abroad. The actress, who portrays defense attorney Monica Stevens, fell ill during production in Prague and required medical treatment at a local hospital.
The incident occurred while the cast was overseas shooting the opening episodes of the new season. Regan said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly, “Working in Prague on The Rookie was extraordinary, though I was a bit unlucky and got hit with some truly nasty food poisoning.”
Following the health scare, she was able to recover and return to work. Regan later acknowledged the care she received from medical staff in Prague, as well as support from the show’s on-set medic.
“Thanks to the incredible care of the hospital staff in Prague, our phenomenal on-set medic, and a whole lot of fluids and meds, I was patched up enough to get back on my feet.I felt so deeply looked after,” she said.
The actress also expressed gratitude toward her costars for their support during the incident. “Huge gratitude to [Jenna Dewan] and Nathan for being so kind, generous, and supportive. The Rookie family is a family in every sense,” she said.
The overseas shoot was part of The Rookie’s Season 8 premiere storyline, which begins with an international operation centered in Prague. It follows John Nolan and Bailey Nune as they become involved in a high-stakes case overseas, working alongside Monica Stevens after her character negotiates an immunity deal.
The ABC police procedural returns with its Season 8 premiere on Tuesday, January 6.
