A recent update about Steven Spielberg’s upcoming UFO movie has brought new attention to when its first trailer might appear. The report points to fresh indications about the timing of the debut, keeping audiences focused on the film’s promotional rollout

Avatar 3 could debut Steven Spielberg’s UFO Movie trailer

James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash will reportedly debut multiple high-profile trailers during its theatrical screenings.

It has been confirmed that Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday trailer and a full trailer for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey will be attached. According to scooper Daniel Richtman, a teaser for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming UFO-themed film is also expected to premiere alongside Avatar 3 (via SFF Gazette).

Spielberg returns to the science fiction genre with an untitled UFO project based on his original idea. David Koepp is writing the screenplay. Koepp previously collaborated with Spielberg on Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The cast features Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, and Wyatt Russell. In June 2025, the team privately screened the first footage during the inauguration of the Steven Spielberg Theater. However, they have not disclosed any plot details.

Spielberg last directed a sci-fi film with Ready Player One, which earned over $600 million worldwide. He built a legacy in the genre with titles like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Minority Report, and War of the Worlds. He established his blockbuster reputation with Jaws.

After The Fabelmans, rumors suggested Spielberg might retire, but he confirmed development of this new project in early 2025. He remains one of the few directors whose upcoming work draws widespread attention.

Martin Scorsese is also actively developing two films, including an adaptation of Life of Jesus and a Frank Sinatra biopic. Potential leads include Andrew Garfield, Miles Teller, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jennifer Lawrence.
