Mindy Kaling’s Running Point is officially moving closer to its return, as reports indicate that Season 2 of the hit Netflix comedy could debut next year. The update follows the update that the new season has recently wrapped filming in Los Angeles, sparking excitement among fans. Following the success of its first season in February 2025, Running Point quickly became one of Netflix’s top-performing comedies.

Running Point Season 2 could get an April 2026 release date

Netflix’s hit sports comedy Running Point has officially wrapped filming for its second season, with What’s on Netflix suggesting the series could return as early as April 2026.

Production began in August 2025 in Los Angeles and concluded slightly ahead of schedule on November 5. The news was confirmed by actor Demetrius Perkins, who shared photos from the wrap party. Filming for the second season was completed in Los Angeles. Each installment is said to have a production budget ranging between $3 and $5 million.

According to What’s on Netflix, post-production is already underway and the series is widely expected to return in Spring 2026. However, as of now, there is no official confirmation about the premiere date.

Running Point first premiered in February 2025 and quickly became one of Netflix’s most popular original comedies. The series was renewed for a second season just one week after its debut, following positive audience reactions and strong streaming numbers. It is created by Elaine Ko, Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen.

The story follows Isla Gordon, played by Kate Hudson, who unexpectedly finds herself running her family’s basketball team, the Los Angeles Waves, after her brother is sent to rehab. The first season explored Isla’s struggle to prove herself in a male-dominated industry. Returning cast members for Season 2 include Hudson, Drew Tarver, Brenda Song, and Scott MacArthur among others.
