Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the filmmakers behind Final Destination Bloodlines, are in negotiations to direct Long Lost, an upcoming psychological thriller set at Universal and produced by Amblin Entertainment.
The film is based on Colin Bannon’s 50-page short story, which Bannon adapted for the screen himself. The story follows a newly married woman whose world begins to unravel when her husband’s presumed-dead wife suddenly returns. Her reappearance sparks fears that she may have sinister intentions.
Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein are in negotiations to direct Long Lost adaptation
The Hollywood Reporter described Long Lost as a blend of What Lies Beneath and Rosemary’s Baby, exploring paranoia and deception within marriage.
Universal won the project in a competitive 2024 bidding war, attaching Steven Spielberg, Simon Kinberg, Audrey Chon, and Scott Glassgold as producers. The studio has not announced casting details or a production timeline and declined to comment on the ongoing negotiations.
Lipovsky and Stein are coming off the success of Final Destination: Bloodlines, the top-grossing entry in the long-running horror franchise. The duo premiered the film in Los Angeles earlier this year. It earned strong critical and commercial praise, positioning them among Hollywood’s most sought-after genre filmmakers.
Their breakout has reportedly led to several new opportunities across major studios. They have received multiple offers in the thriller and science fiction space after the film’s record-breaking international run. The success also cemented their reputation for crafting high-concept, visually inventive stories that balance character-driven tension with large-scale spectacle and strong studio appeal.
Alongside Long Lost, Lipovsky and Stein are co-writing Gremlins 3 with original creator Chris Columbus, who will direct the film for Warner Bros. Warner Bros. plans to release the sequel on November 19, 2027. The duo have also signed on to adapt The Earthling, based on a short story by Jonathan Marty.
Verve, Ground Control, and Jamie Feldman represent both filmmakers.
