A new rumor hints at what’s next for Black Panther 3. Though Marvel has not confirmed any details, reports suggest the sequel will continue its existing storyline while expanding the world of Wakanda with familiar and possibly new faces.
Black Panther 3 will likely continue with Letitia Wright as lead
Insider MyTimeToShineHello wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “While they are introducing more Black Panthers she will remain the main one for years to come,” referencing Wright’s role as Shuri, who inherited the Black Panther mantle in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022).
Marvel has not officially confirmed a third installment. Wright told Variety that “a third Black Panther film [is] in the works,” but Marvel has not announced a production timeline.
Appearing on The View in June 2024, Wright said she was “grateful” to play Shuri and added, “I would like to continue with Shuri. She’s one of my favorite characters.” When asked if Black Panther 3 was coming, Wright replied, “There’s a lot coming up,” smiling as she spoke. Shuri, the sister of the late T’Challa, became the protector of Wakanda following Chadwick Boseman’s passing in 2020.
At the same time, fan speculation surrounding Black Panther 3 expanded after actor Damson Idris appeared alongside Angela Bassett at Vogue World: Hollywood. Photos showed Idris in a black suit with Bassett, who plays Queen Ramonda, sparking speculation that he could portray a new T’Challa or Prince Toussaint, introduced at the end of Wakanda Forever. A viral caption reading “yeah that’s T’Challa” drew reportedly more than 1.5 million views.
In a prior interview with Entertainment Weekly, the host asked Idris if he had “any conversations” about becoming the next Black Panther. He replied, “Yes-no!” and added that he would accept the role if offered.
Director Ryan Coogler previously said he hopes “people are still making movies about Wakanda long after we’re gone” (via The New York Times). His comment appeared to suggest Marvel’s plans to continue exploring the nation’s legacy and future generations in upcoming stories.
