A third Minions movie is officially on the way as Illumination prepares to expand its animated universe once again. While details remain scarce, new scheduling updates and a rumored title hint at the franchise’s next big chapter, following the global success of Minions: The Rise of Gru.
Minions 3 title rumored to be Minions & Monsters
A new rumor claims the upcoming Minions 3 movie will be titled Minions & Monsters. The scoop originated from industry insider @MyTimeToShineHello, who posted on X (formerly Twitter) on October 18, 2025, writing, “The Minions 3 is called MINIONS & MONSTERS.” The post quickly circulated across entertainment pages and fan accounts, but Universal Pictures and Illumination have not yet commented on the claim.
Universal announced a major scheduling update in January 2025 and confirmed that Minions 3 will release on July 1, 2026, instead of its earlier 2027 date. The studio moved Shrek 5 from July 1, 2026, to December 23, 2026, to make space for the next Minions film. An untitled Illumination project, once set for March 19, 2027, also shifted to a later date to fit the new lineup (via The Wrap).
The Minions franchise, a spinoff of Despicable Me, remains one of Illumination’s biggest successes. Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022) earned nearly $1 billion worldwide, solidifying demand for another sequel.
Illumination has not yet released an official synopsis or cast list. However, the rumored subtitle Minions & Monsters continues to spark fan speculation about an exciting new creative direction.
Universal and Illumination have not confirmed the rumored title or shared production updates. As of October 2025, the only verified information is its production under Illumination Entertainment and its updated release date in Universal’s film slate.
