The Witcher spin-off movie, The Rats, to release with Season 4
The Rats: A Witcher Tale movie, which is a spin-off of The Witcher, is reportedly expected to arrive on Netflix alongside Season 4. This comes after reports previously suggested that the project was scrapped (via What’s on Netflix).
In August 2025, an insider described the project as a “disaster” to The Redanian Intelligence. The insider also stated that The Rats was “worse than Blood Origin,” and things didn’t go well while the spin-off was in production in South Africa.
There is not much information available regarding the plot of the movie. However, it is reported that The Rats was set to be a prequel that would focus on the characters introduced in The Witcher Season 3.
The Witcher Season 4 will be out on Netflix on October 30, 2025. A teaser for the series was released with Liam Hemsworth as Geralt after Henry Cavill’s departure. The show will end with Season 5, which is currently in active development.
While speaking to SFX Magazine about spin-offs in January 2025, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said, “We made a conscious decision to end the live-action show after season five, where the books ended. We felt very strongly about that, but it doesn’t mean that all Witcher storytelling has to be done. I love this world. I’m constantly looking for other opportunities to expand it outside of the main mothership show” (via The Redanian Intelligence).
