Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent Season 2 Cast Just Got Bigger

The Presumed Innocent Season 2 cast is set for a big change. A well-known TV star has officially joined the Apple TV+ drama for its upcoming season. The actor will appear alongside a returning Emmy-winning star when the series continues.

Matthew Rhys joins Rachel Brosnahan in Presumed Innocent Season 2 cast

Presumed Innocent Season 2 on Apple TV+, developed by David E. Kelley, began in 2024 with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role and earned four Emmy nominations. Variety reported that Season 2 will feature an all-new cast and storyline, as the series follows an anthology format.

In the upcoming season, Rachel Brosnahan will portray defense attorney Leila Reynolds, who takes on a high-profile murder case involving the death of a respected judge. According to publisher Pan Macmillan’s description of the plot, Reynolds’ client Jack Millman insists she represent him, despite the case being beyond her experience. Matthew Rhys will reportedly play Reynolds’ husband, a prosecutor who finds himself on the opposite side of the case. Jack Reynor has also joined the cast as Millman, the defendant.

Apple TV+ based Presumed Innocent Season 2 on Dissection of a Murder, the debut novel by Jo Murray, which will be published in 2026. Unlike Season 1, which adapted Scott Turow’s 1987 bestseller, the new season draws from an unreleased book and signals a more contemporary approach. Producers have kept details about Rhys’ character under wraps, aside from his connection to Brosnahan’s role.

Rhys earned an Emmy for his performance as Philip Jennings in FX’s The Americans. He also led HBO’s Perry Mason for two seasons and appeared in Towards Zero for BritBox and BBC1. His upcoming projects include Widow’s Bay for Apple TV+ and The Beast in Me for Netflix. Presumed Innocent marks his second collaboration with Apple TV+.

Behind the scenes, Kelley and Erica Lipez will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. Additional executive producers include J.J. Abrams, Rachel Rusch Rich, Matthew Tinker, Dustin Thomason, and Brosnahan herself, among others.
