Kevin James recently teased the possibility of Grown Ups 3 finally happening after years of speculation. In a new interview, he shared that conversations are taking place behind the scenes, hinting at movement on the long-dormant comedy sequel and giving fans reason to stay hopeful.
Kevin James asks fans to keep hopes of Grown Ups 3 alive
While promoting his film Guns Up, Kevin James told The Direct, “I think there have been [conversations]. And I think, yeah, I think you can keep hope alive. I can say that. I would keep a lot of hope alive. And I think it’s happening—something’s happening. I can say that.”
This marks the first concrete update in years regarding the franchise’s continuation. The original Grown Ups (2010) and Grown Ups 2 (2013) starred Kevin James, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, and David Spade. Despite low critical reception, the films gained a loyal fanbase and strong streaming presence.
The cast has expressed interest in returning, though official production plans remain unconfirmed. James noted that the conversations involve Columbia Pictures, which is owned by Sony. No scripts or filming dates have been finalized.
In 2019, comedian Tom Scharpling wrote a speculative script for Grown Ups 3 and shared it online, calling it “the best thing [he] will ever do in [his] life.” While unofficial, the script gained attention among fans.
Adam Sandler is currently promoting Happy Gilmore 2, set to premiere on Netflix soon. He is also working on multiple projects, including collaborations with George Clooney, Noah Baumbach, and Josh Safdie.
If Grown Ups 3 enters production soon, its earliest release window would be late 2026 or early 2027. The sequel would be the first film without Cameron Boyce, who played Sandler’s son and passed away in 2019 at age 20.
Both Grown Ups films are available to stream on Netflix.
