Severance Season 3 Release Date Update Might Disappoint Fans

Matt Cherniss, the head of programming at Apple TV+, gave a not-so-promising update on the Severance Season 3 release date. The first season of Severance debuted on February 18, 2022, whereas Season 2 began streaming on January 17, 2025. The three-year gap between the releases of the inaugural and sophomore seasons has led to speculations on whether the third chapter will arrive three years later.

Matt Cherniss was asked during an interview with Variety whether there would be a three-year delay to the release of Severance Season 3. The executive made it clear that “no one” wanted that. He then added that even though they didn’t yet have a production date, they were “moving in that direction.” Cherniss elaborated, “I’m as excited as everyone else to see where the series goes. I may have a few ideas about where it’s heading, but I like to be surprised as much as anyone.”

Cherniss also stated that he was “feeling really good” about their current circumstances when asked whether Season 3 was on track. “I think everyone’s just going to take a deep breath and enjoy where we’re at,” he explained, before assuring fans that the creative team behind Severance is proceeding with the next season “as quickly as they can.”

Cherniss elaborated, “When you have the success that a show like Severance has, you want to make sure you deliver on every level when the show comes back, and that takes some time. But they’re on it, and I think I’m feeling really good about where we’re at.”

In March, Ben Stiller, who executive-produced the series and directed several episodes, stated that the third season will not experience as big a delay as the previous chapter. He also teased that they will soon make announcements about what the “plan” is for Season 3.
