Netflix Renews Ransom Canyon for Season 2, Series Creator Confirms

Ransom Canyon creator April Blair has confirmed the show’s return, shedding light on the upcoming second season and what fans can expect next. She also discussed how the story will expand while staying rooted in the show’s original themes.

Netflix’s Ransom Canyon Season 2 renewed

Netflix has officially renewed Ransom Canyon for a second season. The romantic Western drama, which stars Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, is based on Jodi Thomas’ book series and debuted in April with ten episodes.

Netflix renewed the show over two months after the first season premiered, by which time April Blair, the showrunner and executive producer, had reportedly already assembled the Season 2 writers’ room.

Production is reportedly expected to begin in September, with the team planning to film in New Mexico. The series, set in Texas Hill Country, will return to Netflix Studios Albuquerque, the same location used for Season 1.

April Blair reacts to Ransom Canyon Season 2 renewal

April Blair confirmed Season 2 development via a repost on Instagram, highlighting Deadline’s June 24 article. Blair told the outlet, “I couldn’t be happier that Netflix is ready to get back in the saddle for Ransom Canyon. Our dreamy little corner of Texas Hill Country is full of stories still untold.”

She leads the project as executive producer alongside Dan Angel and Duhamel. The Season 1 cast excluding James Brolin, whose character arc ended, is expected to return. Erica Dasher, who appeared briefly as a mystery woman in the finale, may audition for a larger role.

Season 1 was placed in the Global Top 10 for four weeks, peaking at #2 with 9.4 million views in its first full week and charting in 77 countries. The show joins Netflix’s comfort entertainment slate alongside Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias. Season 2 will continue exploring the lives of three ranching families entangled in land disputes and personal drama.

Blair previously told Deadline, “Now that we’re in the room on Season 2, it’s a very fun character that’s shaping up and a very juicy backstory.” The show’s second season will introduce new conflicts and further develop the relationships set up in Season 1.
