Rumor: Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey to Get Oppenheimer’s Rating

As Christopher Nolan’s upcoming directorial feature, The Odyssey, approaches its 2026 release date, rumors regarding what its MPAA rating could be have started to surface on the internet. The latest theory suggests that the Matt Damon-led fantasy epic may receive an R-rating due to the mature content it supposedly contains.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey rumored to be R-rated

According to the latest update shared by renowned scooper MyTimeToShineHello, it is highly likely that The Odyssey will debut in theaters with an R-rating.

In their latest X (formerly Twitter) update, MTTSH noted, “Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY will be R-rated.” While this would sit in line with his last theatrical outing, 2023’s Oppenheimer, which also received a rating appropriate for mature audiences only, the bulk of Christopher Nolan’s filmography has featured movies with the PG-13 rating.

In his career as a director so far, which has spawned 12 films in a 27-year period, Nolan has only helmed four R-rated flicks, as per Film Ratings. After starting things off with Following, Memento, and Insomnia, all three of which had a rating that required a parent or adult guardian to accompany any viewer who was under the age of 17, Nolan switched to a more familiar setting, only directing movies with a PG-13 rating. However, after a 23-year hiatus, he finally returned to the R-rated setup with the highly successful Oppenheimer.

Here’s a roster of Nolan’s movies, including the fan-favorite The Dark Knight, along with their MPAA grades –

  • Following – R
  • Memento – R
  • Insomnia – R
  • Batman Begins – PG-13
  • The Prestige – PG-13

  • Inception – PG-13
  • The Dark Knight Rises – PG-13
  • Interstellar – PG-13
