Mindhunter Season 3 Finally Gets Exciting Update 5 Years After Season 2

Holt McCallany, who portrays FBI Special Agent Bill Tench in Netflix’s Mindhunter, gave an exciting update about the potential continuation of the story. The series premiered on Netflix on October 13, 2017, with Season 2 becoming available on August 16, 2019. Mindhunter received widespread acclaim, and speculations about the prospects of a Season 3 have been going around for a while.

Holt McCallany teases Mindhunter’s return as movie trilogy instead of Season 3

Holt McCallany revealed during a recent interview with CBR that while Mindhunter Season 3 may not happen, it could come back as a Netflix movie trilogy. He divulged that he spoke to executive producer David Fincher “a few months back,” and the iconic filmmaker told him that Mindhunter could return as “three two-hour” films.

“So look, you know, I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it’s just a chance,” McCallany said. He added that there were writers who were working on the scripts, but ultimately, Fincher had to be “happy” with them.

In Mindhunter, McCallany’s Bill Tench serves in the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit (BSU) alongside Jonathan Groff’s Holden Ford. Together with Anna Torv’s Wendy Carr, a psychology professor, they embark on a research project documenting conversations with incarcerated serial killers to understand what makes them who they are. They hope that they can use the knowledge they accumulate through these interviews on open cases.

In the aforementioned interview, McCallany noted that he felt “very fortunate and privileged” to work on Mindhunter and that he would “love” if it returned. The actor elaborated, “I think, like I said, you know, he [Fincher] gave me a little bit of hope when I had that meeting with him, but the sun, the moon, and the stars would all have to align.”
