A new update from producer Dan Fogelman reveals that Only Murders in the Building Season 5 is close to finishing production, hinting at a familiar release date window. The filming schedule aligns with previous seasons, as anticipation builds for the return of the hit Hulu mystery-comedy.
Only Murders in The Building Season 5 ‘almost’ wraps up filming
Production on Only Murders in the Building Season 5 began in March 2025 and is nearing completion. According to executive producer Dan Fogelman, the team has already filmed most of the ten-episode season. “I’ve seen six of the ten episodes already. We’re almost done shooting the season as we speak,” he told Collider at the Newport Beach TV Fest.
The team is following the same filming schedule as Season 4, which ran from March to June and premiered in late August. They haven’t released any official footage or promotional images for Season 5 yet. However, the current timeline suggests the new season could debut around the same late summer window.
Season 5 will feature returning leads Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. It also brings back Meryl Streep as Loretta Durkin, now Mrs. Oliver Putnam. New cast members include Jermaine Fowler, Christoph Waltz, Keegan-Michael Key, Logan Lerman, Beanie Feldstein, and Renée Zellweger. Fogelman said the season’s guest stars “are going to make some noise” and praised their contributions as “hysterical and funny and dangerous in all the right ways.”
Season 4 ended with the death of Lester (Teddy Coluca), the Arconia’s longtime doorman, during Oliver and Loretta’s wedding. It also introduced Téa Leoni as Sofia, who approaches the trio to investigate her husband’s disappearance linked to the Arconia. These plot threads will carry into the next season.
The series has maintained an annual release pattern, with three of its four seasons debuting in August. If filming concludes in June, Season 5 could arrive by late summer 2025.
