Rumor: Daniel Craig Left Sgt. Rock To Be Brainiac in Superman Sequels

According to a recent rumor, Daniel Craig may have left the DCU’s Sgt. Rock to play the supervillain Brainiac in the upcoming Superman movie and its sequels. Notably, Brainiac is an enduring Superman villain in DC Comics. If Craig does play the role in 2025’s Superman or its sequels, it will mark the character’s first appearance in a live-action feature.

Will Daniel Craig play the DCU’s Brainiac after Superman?

Industry scoopers and journalists Jeff Sneider and John Rocha speculated on the prospects of Daniel Craig appearing as Brainiac in Superman and its sequels. Sneider hypothesized that Craig might have left Sgt. Rock to play the role of one of the most prominent members of Superman’s rogues’ gallery.

“Is Brainiac someone who was cast a year ago? Or was he someone who came in late in the process to record some lines? You don’t see a face, like you know he’s AI,” Sneider began, speculating that the character could potentially appear in Superman, slated to release in theaters on July 11, 2025. Notably, there has been a lot of speculation that the character could appear in the movie, though nothing has been confirmed by official sources yet, and recent reports have cast doubt on Brainiac being a part of Superman’s first film in the DCU.

Sneider continued, “Let me throw this out there. Who was supposed to be in the DC Universe and wasn’t. He got replaced. That’s Sgt. Rock.” When Rocha asked if Sneider really thought it would be Daniel Craig, the other elaborated, “Because if you’re telling me that this guy is as cold as ice. F—— James Bond is cold as ice.”

Back in November 2024, it was reported that Daniel Craig and Luca Guadagnino, who worked together on Queer, would do so again on a Sgt. Rock feature. However, by February 2025, later reports claimed that The Penguin’s Colin Farrell was circling the project. According to Sneider, Farrell boarding Sgt. Rock could have coincided with the DCU looking for a voice actor for Brainiac, and Craig might have agreed to play the character after being told about his potential importance down the line.
