The popular kids’ program CoComelon has shifted from Netflix to Disney+ reportedly due to low viewership. CoComelon shot to popularity with its 3D videos of kids’ nursery rhymes and songs. It is one of the most subscribed channels on YouTube, with over 190 million subscribers, and boasts approximately 200 billion views on its videos.
Disney+ to be CoComelon’s new streaming home in 2027 after Netflix
CoComelon is all set to shift to Disney+ in 2027 from Netflix, after the latter did not renew it (via Variety).
The outlet states that the decision not to bid for the program at a license fee higher than the usual one was taken by Netflix due to viewership issues. The recent report by Netflix suggests that CoComelon suffered a 60 percent loss in viewership among the Kids and family genre of the streaming giant from 2023 H1 to 2024 H2.
Additionally, as per Nielsen‘s recent report, the CoComelon show also failed to make it into the top 10 of the Streaming Acquired chart of 2024. This is a big drop from 2023 when the program ranked 5 on the chart. On the other hand, Bluey, which streams on Disney+, topped the chart with 55.62 billion views.
Although 4 new seasons of CoComelon from seasons 9 to 12 came out in the meantime, it has failed to attract the audience.
Despite CoComelon’s exit from Netflix, the other shows produced by Moonbug Entertainment, CoComelon Lane and Blippi, will keep airing on the platform. This is because CoComelon Lane has surpassed the viewership of CoComelon in 2024 and clocked over 50 million views in that year.
While CoComelon is leaving Netflix, another kids’ series named Sesame Street, is making its way to the platform this year. Sesame Street is migrating from HBO Max to Netflix after the former didn’t renew its contract.
