Avengers: Doomsday Rumor: Ryan Gosling Eyed for Ghost Rider

A new rumor claims Ryan Gosling may join the MCU as Ghost Rider in Avengers: Doomsday. The report follows recent updates about casting activity and timeline changes surrounding upcoming Marvel films. While Marvel Studios has not confirmed Gosling’s involvement, insider scoops and past comments from the actor have reignited speculation about the Spirit of Vengeance entering the franchise.

Ryan Gosling could be MCU’s Ghost Rider in Avengers: Doomsday’s cast

Marvel Studios reportedly wants Ryan Gosling to play Ghost Rider in Avengers: Doomsday, according to scooper @MyTimeToShineHello on X (formerly Twitter).

Insider Jeff Sneider also stated on The Hot Mic podcast that Marvel is actively casting Ghost Rider for the film, adding, “I am hearing Ghost Rider is going to be in Doomsday.” He clarified that the role would not involve Nicolas Cage, who previously portrayed Johnny Blaze, saying, “This is a search.”

Sneider did not confirm which version of Ghost Rider would appear but acknowledged Johnny Blaze as the most iconic iteration. His co-host John Rocha pointed out other versions exist in Marvel Comics, including Danny Ketch, Alejandra Jones, and Robbie Reyes. Gabriel Luna played Reyes in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., while Sam Elliott portrayed Carter Slade in Ghost Rider (2007).

Ryan Gosling has expressed interest in playing Ghost Rider. In a 2024 interview while promoting The Fall Guy, he said, “I told Josh I would like to play Ghost Rider.” Kevin Feige responded to this interest, stating, “Ryan is amazing. I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU” (via Variety). When asked if he would join a superhero project, Gosling replied, “I would love to, it would be amazing.”

Gosling’s schedule may present challenges. He is also reportedly starring in Star Wars: Starfighter. However, with Avengers: Doomsday delayed to December 18, 2026, there is ample time to film his scenes, possibly within 2025. This delay could also allow him to reprise the role in Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for December 17, 2027.

Ghost Rider, debuting in 1972, is a stunt motorcyclist cursed with supernatural powers who transforms into a skeletal figure engulfed in flames. Marvel is reportedly planning a Midnight Sons project, which could feature Ghost Rider alongside Blade and Moon Knight.

Norman Reedus has also shown interest in the role. In a 2021 interview with ComicBook, he said, “The Ghost Rider conversation has been coming up for years, and yeah, tell them to put me in it. I want to play Ghost Rider.”

He reiterated this in 2022, adding, “Fingers crossed. I don’t know. There’s been a lot of talk over the last couple years. I do not have an answer for you.” Gabriel Luna, who played Robbie Reyes in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., has also expressed interest in returning.

Whether any of these castings come to fruition remains to be seen. Marvel is reportedly planning a Midnight Sons project, which could feature Ghost Rider alongside Blade and Moon Knight.
