Industry scoopers claim that an Annihilators movie, headlined by Chris Pratt as Peter Quill / Star-Lord, might be in the works at Marvel Studios. Speculations about a potential project based on the Annihilators team from Marvel Comics have been around for a while, though the studio is yet to officially confirm the project.
Annihilators movie rumored to be in development, but will Star-Lord appear?
Hollywood scooper Daniel Richtman took to Patreon recently and claimed that Marvel is developing an Annihilators movie. If this turns out to be true, it could be an important entry in the reportedly planned next phase of the MCU alongside Black Panther 3 and an X-Men reboot.
Back in October 2024, Alex Perex of the Cosmic Circus hinted during a Discord Q&A session that even though it might be a while before fans see the Guardians of the Galaxy again, Peter might come back by himself sooner than that. “There were plans to have him form the Annihilators. IDK [I don’t know) what the plan is now.”
Pratt last appeared in the MCU in 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which ends by depicting Peter’s return to Earth after spending decades in space. Given what Richtman is speculating, the overall plans for Star-Lord’s return still seem to be in place.
Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, and Miguel Angel Sepulveda created the Annihilators, a super-hero collective that made its first appearance in the one-shot comic The Thanos Imperative: Devastation.
In the comics, after Star-Lord’s death, his close friend Cosmo the Space Dog decided to form a collective that would prevent galactic wars and protect the galaxy from various threats. The team comprises Cosmo, Quasar, Ronan the Accuser, Gladiator, Beta Ray Bill, Silver Surfer, and Ikon.
Pratt has spoken about his potential return to the MCU multiple times. In April 2025, after the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal, he told Collider, “I can’t say, for fans of mine, where they’ll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the end of [Guardians of the Galaxy] Vol. 3 that the legendary Star-Lord will return, and he will return.”
