Cynthia Erivo to star in 2026’s Dracula show on London’s West End

According to a report by Deadline, Cynthia Erivo is coming back to the stage to play the role of Dracula and 22 other roles in Kip Williams’ play, Dracula. The play is based on the original Gothic novel by Bram Stoker.

This Sydney Theatre Company production is also produced by the Michael Cassel Group from Australia. The Dracula play is scheduled to play at the Noel Coward Theatre, owned by Cameron Mackintosh, for 16 weeks in 2026, from February 4 to May 31.

Discussions about Erivo joining the mix started swirling while she was promoting her blockbuster 2024 musical film Wicked with Ariana Grande. Her appearance in the Dracula play is her return to the theater after starring in The Color Purple as Celie until January 2017.

While speaking about Erivo’s onboarding for the play, Michael Cassel, CEO of the Michael Cassel Group, told the outlet, “The stars have aligned and we’ve got an amazing actor in Cynthia to join us. She has really spent most of her time with Kip just talking through the inspiration and the dramaturgy of it all. For them to connect in that way has been important for them because this is a show that they go and create together.”

Cassel shared that Erivo is thrilled to “put her own interpretation on the role and explore that with Kip” to make the London version different from the Australian one. He added, “I think what’s so exciting, I think for her, and for us, while we know what the story is, they get to go and create this role in the rehearsal room in London together. We just couldn’t be happier with Cynthia leading the charge.”
