Jurassic World Rebirth Screenwriter Reveals Why It is Set in ‘Dinosaurs’ Environment’

The writer of the original Jurassic Park movies, David Koepp, recently shared how the setting of the upcoming film, Jurassic World Rebirth, differs from the trilogy featuring Chris Pratt. Directed by Gareth Edwards, the highly anticipated film is all set to hit theaters on July 2, 2025. The movie has a stellar cast featuring Jonathan Bailey, Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, and many others.

David Koepp explains the setting of Jurassic World Rebirth

Writer David Koepp recently spoke to Empire Magazine about the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth. As Koepp looked back at the Jurassic Park movies starring Chris Pratt, he stated that the new movie is different.

Koepp said, “The last few movies were exploring the idea of, ‘Hey, what would it be like if they were in our environment?’ They did that very well, and now we wanted to explore how it felt to go back to theirs. We wanted to recapture the idea that we are in the dinosaurs’ environment.”

Additionally, Jonathan Bailey, who plays the role of paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis in the movie, described it as a “love letter” to the original Steven Spielberg flick. He shared, “It really does feel that it’s welcoming people to really celebrate the original film. It has that wonder and awe, while not being scared to re-inject the thrill and the fear.”

Koepp has worked on the 1993 movie Jurassic Park and its sequel, the 1997 movie The Lost World: Jurassic Park. While talking to The Wrap in January 2025 about his comeback to the franchise, the writer said, “You don’t often get that chance where they give you very few guidelines, except there must be dinosaurs in it. The combination of grand adventure and real science is right up my alley.”
