Saturday Night Live poked fun at country pop singer Morgan Wallen for abruptly leaving during the live broadcast of last week’s episode. On the April 5 episode of SNL, the incident involving Wallen’s sudden departure was referenced in two separate segments: The cold open and the Weekend Update. Notably, Wallen was the musical guest on the March 29, 2025, episode of the iconic NBC sketch comedy variety show, appearing alongside host Mikey Madison. Wallen performed two songs during his appearance and exited the stage while the group hugs and farewells were happening there at the end of the episode.
SNL mocks Morgan Wallen’s ‘god’s country’ caption in new episode
SNL mocked Wallen and his March 29 episode’s abrupt exit from the stage twice in this week’s episode. In the cold open, which featured James Austin Johnson appearing as President Donald Trump and Mike Myers as Elon Musk, the former said, “I even put tariffs on an island uninhabited by humans. It’s called Heard and McDonald Island. McDonald Island. I would love to visit there. Can you imagine that? Big Mac and a hula skirt. Get me to God’s country, right? Remember that?” The “God’s country” part of the dialogue is likely a reference to Wallen’s social media post after his SNL appearance. On Instagram Stories, Wallen shared a photo of his private jet with the following words: “Get me to God’s country.” (via Deadline)
Wallen was at the receiving end of further hilarious treatment during the Weekend Update. Segment co-host Colin Jost brought up Wallen’s departure while commenting on the impact that Donald Trump’s tariffs had on the stock market. “This was the worst week for the stock market since the summer of 2020,” Jost said. “But you have to remember — back then — the president was also Trump. Just in the past two days, investors have lost over $6 trillion. Money is leaving the stock market faster than Morgan Wallen at goodnights.”
Wallen becomes the latest entry in a long list of SNL hosts and musical guests who have been mocked in later episodes. The next episode, set to air on April 12, 2025, will feature Jon Hamm as host and Lizzo as musical guest.
