Taylor Swift Addresses the Meaning for ‘Actually Romantic’ Lyrics Amid Charlie XCX Speculation

Taylor Swift released her 12th studio album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, on October 3, 2025. One of the tracks, “Actually Romantic,” from her latest album, has sparked speculation among fans that it may be related to a possible feud between Swift and Charli XCX.

The singer gave plenty of details behind the inspiration for the song

Swift is known for writing songs that reflect her personal experiences. So, it’s no surprise when fans speculated that the song “Actually Romantic” might be about the pop singer’s feud with British singer Charli XCX. In the opening lines of “Actually Romantic” Swift sings about a musician who calls her “Boring Barbie” and their obsessive behavior.

However, recently, during the Amazon Music introduction for the song, Swift revealed what the lyrics of the song are actually about. The 35-year-old pop singer expressed that the song is all about “realizing that someone else has kind of had a one-sided, adversarial relationship with you that you didn’t know about.”

She continued, “And all of a sudden they start doing too much and they start letting you know that actually, you’ve been living in their head rent-free and you had no idea.”

Further explaining the lyrics of the song from her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, she said, “It’s presenting itself as them sort of resenting you or having a problem with you but you take that and just accept it as love and you accept it as attention and affection, and how flattering that somebody has made you such a big part of their reality when you didn’t even think about this.”

Swift said that “it’s actually pretty romantic.”

With the explanation, Swift put an end to the speculations that the song is about Charli XCX.
