Carrie Underwood honored songwriter Brett James following his heartbreaking passing

The “Champion” singer, 42, took to Instagram the following day to share an intimate tribute to her long term colleague and friend, Brett James. Their songwriting credits include works such as “Cowboy Casanova”, and “Jesus, take the wheel.”

“Some things are just unfathomable. The loss of Brett James to his family, friends and our music community is too great to put into words,” she began. Calling him the “epitome of cool,” Carrie portrayed a vivid picture of him via her words. She recalled how James would ride up to her cabins on his motorcycle, and his hair would somehow still be in place, regardless of the helmet.

The Oklahoma resident also shared a glimpse into James’ kindness as a co-writer. “I remember writing with him on a song that he basically wrote 75% of and had ready when he walked in the room. We filled in the blanks and added a little melody and I told him after that I didn’t feel right splitting the credit evenly when he did most of the work. He wouldn’t have it,” she revealed. The star insisted that everything be fair. “He was just that kind of guy,” the singer added further reflecting on the late songwriter’s generosity.

In her post, Carrie echoes the sentiment of loss that has shaken a community to its core. James, father of four, leaves behind his great legacy with dozens of chart-toppers and award winning songs. Overall, he built a reputation for unparalleled compassion that his peers believe cannot be matched.
