Tom Cruise and Glen Powell‘s friendship seemed to have hit a rough patch. Recently, the 36-year-old opened up about his dating life and how the senior actor’s advice helped him during his break-up phase. But the innocent revelations appeared to have backfired. According to a source, the “Top Gun-Maverick” lead, who’s seemingly a “private” person, believes that his co-star has broken his “trust” by quoting him in an interview.
Tom Cruise ‘doesn’t want his name dragged into young Hollywood’s dating gossip,’ source claims
Tom Cruise has reportedly inspired and taught Glen Powell the basics to survive in Hollywood. Both actors worked together in the 2022 hit, “Top Gun: Maverick.” The following year, Powell earned recognition as a lead actor in a rom-com, “Anyone But You,” alongside Sydney Sweeney. His chemistry with the “Euphoria” star became the hot topic of discussion, leading to their dating rumors.
Amid the speculations, Powell reportedly went through a break-up with his then-girlfriend, Gigi Paris. During his recent interview with GQ magazine, he revealed that Cruise advised him to “turn the volume down.” It supposedly helped him to survive and balance the negative aspects of stardom. However, his revelation seemed to sit poorly with the 63-year-old.
A source told Rob Shuter‘s #ShuterScoop that the Golden Globe award-winner is the “most private actor in Hollywood.” Hence, he avoids situations where his name gets “dragged into young Hollywood’s dating gossip.” So, he doesn’t appreciate that his friends quote him publicly. “To him, Glen broke a trust,” the veteran associate added.
Another insider claimed that the “Mission Impossible” star prioritizes “discretion,” while a Hollywood executive stated that “loyalty” is the most critical factor for Cruise. Reportedly, the Oscar-nominee became a mentor for Powell and opened doors in the industry for him. But his GQ interview might affect the mentorship. “Loose lips don’t fly in Tom’s world,” the executive mentioned.
The “Set It Up” actor told the magazine that Cruise advised that things would get “really loud” and that he would have the power to turn down the volume. “You have your hand on the ability to turn up that noise or turn it down,” Powell quoted Cruise.
