Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have signed a new deal with Netflix, but it will reportedly not pay them as much as before. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have extended their partnership with the streaming giant, but will have different conditions from the previous agreement. According to an expert, Harry and Meghan’s new Netflix deal is a “downgrade.”
Netflix is not uncoupling with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle but the deal is downgraded, says expert
A new report has suggested that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new Netflix deal won’t benefit them as the previous agreement did. PR expert Mark Borkowski explained to the Daily Mail how the contract will play out moving forward. The report comes after the royal couple signed a new “multi-year, first look deal for film and television projects” with Netflix.
Borkowski stated that the new deal is a “downgrade” for Harry and Meghan, suggesting that the figure is a long way from the original $100 million contract. According to Borkowski, Netflix did a “very neat job of pivoting away from two very expensive people who didn’t deliver.” The expert added that the streaming giant has “taken that deal off the table.” Instead, Netflix has given Harry and Meghan a “modest one.”
Although Netflix is not “uncoupling” with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the conditions will reportedly be different. The streaming platform will reportedly “pick and choose” the royal couple’s content. Borkowski also told the Daily Mail that Harry and Meghan might get paid for each production selected by Netflix. This would be opposed to an overall fee, like in the original 2020 deal. The expert continued, “I would be surprised if it’s not pay-as-you-go.”
Borkowski then added that the new deal is “well below that first mark.” The expert’s claims came after Meghan confirmed the latest Netflix partnership in a statement. The New York Post reported that Archewell Productions confirmed the second season of “With Love, Meghan. ” The show will premiere on Netflix later this month. Not only that, a new holiday special will also air later in December.
