Livvy Dunne Explains Why Her Olympic Dreams Are Dead

Former gymnast Livvy Dunne has finally opened up about why she had to give up her dreams of competing in the Olympics. After being part of it for many years, the sportsperson bid farewell to gymnastics in April. Recently, while speaking on the “What’s Your Story? The former Louisiana State University (LSU) gymnast, Livvy Dunne, started gymnastics when she was just 3 years old. She even made it to the US Junior Women’s National Team in 2017. The athlete had her eyes set on gold initially, but an unfortunate ankle injury changed everything. The injury limited her athletic ability; as a result, she could no longer participate in the Olympics.

The 22-year-old spoke about her injury on the “What’s Your Story? With Stephanie McMahon” podcast, released on July 17. “I was actually competing on a hurt ankle (at) the 2018 USA Championships,” she said, adding, “And part of my ankle bone died.”

Explaining about her condition, Dunne said, “It’s called an OCD, it just died, so my Olympic dreams died with it.” At the time, the former member of the LSU Tigers women’s gymnastics team was diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans. It is a condition in which the bone underneath the cartilage of a joint dies from improper blood flow, hindering joint motion.

“It was so painful. That was one of my first real injuries,” the influencer told the host, adding, “I’ve actually never gotten any surgery, which is kind of crazy for a gymnast.”

However, the gymnast “did compete for Team USA” previously. She went to “Italy” to compete, where the team “won gold.” That was the “biggest honours” of her life. However, it was “just not the right environment for her” as she “kept getting hurt.” Dunne began her collegiate gymnastics during the 2020-21 season and finally bid farewell to gymnastics on April 22. She informed about her decision via a heartfelt Instagram post
