Major Spoilers On The Nightmare On Elm Street Remake!

The latest revamping of the Wes Craven horror classic, A Nightmare On Elm Street , is hitting theaters April 30th, and we’re cautiously optimistic that it’s not going to suck!! Ever since the shit-your-pants scary trailer was released, we’ve been anxiously awaiting any possible deets on the film, and today we got some MAJOR spoilers and details!! You were warned. BloodyDisgusting.com was invited to the set to watch Freddy Krueger , played now by Oscar-nominee Jackie Earle Haley , seriously mess up Ella from Melrose Place while she sleeps. Ella, who in real life is Katie Cassidy , talked about the updated version of the the classic sequence where her character is levitated out of bed and brutalized: “I did have a stunt double, but for the most part I wanted to do as much as I possibly could. The physicality of it, it was hard being on a harness and being thrown around the room, jerked up and down, and being slashed in the chest. The blood was everywhere; it was pretty emotionally and physically draining. Though, I look back and I’m sure it is going to look amazing, I mean we saw this reel and it just all made sense to me in my head, I thought, ‘oh yeah, this is why I am doing this!’ It looked brilliant, just the way he [Sam Bayer] cut it together. I thought this is definitely worth it, I got to go through with it and finish it up without having to give it all to my stunt double. You know, a lot of actors just give it all to the stunt doubles, but I didn’t want to do that. So after the whole thing I was all bruised, and it was physically hard on my body, but it was cool to say these are my battle wounds from my job!” Good for her!! We saw some of that shiz in the trailer and it was NUTS. Producer Brad Fuller doesn’t want people to worry about the violence, however, because he insists the new story in more based in the psychology of the scares then the splatter effects. “By the nature of the film, it’s not as bloody as Friday the 13th or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre . This is more of a film that makes you have nightmares and gets under your skin in a real way, and that is what we are going for. Having said that, there is plenty of blood; when people are getting slashed there is blood to be had and we are not skimping on it.” A little from column A, a little from column B – not too shabby!! Darkhorizons.net also got to talk to the new Freddy and get the deets on his reinterpretation of the badass, dream-hopping serial killer. Haley said: “We delve in a little bit more and we learn a little bit more. But it’s very based on stuff that we’ve learned prior. I think he’s a bit more serious than what we’ve seen before. [Freddy’s] a little more pissed. ” And newbie Rooney Mara explained how she updated her iconic heroine Nancy Thompson . “She’s not at all goth, except for the fact that goths are usually coined as disturbed. She’ll just literally paint all night long. And the things she’s painting are repressed memories that she can’t understand or remember. Her art’s quite dark and she keeps painting the same things, but doesn’t know where they’re coming from or what they mean , and she sort of starts to figure it out throughout the movie.” Sounds JUICY!!! Fuller closes by talking about possibly the most interesting update to the film – a new concept for the story called ‘micro-naps,’ which is when characters are so deprived of sleep that the brain slips into a dream state while conscious for brief seconds. “One of the things that was exciting was coming up with the concept of micro-naps. That really amped up the third act in a pretty big way and we loved the notion of what it does because, you know, the movie can become repetitive because you are going dream-reality-dream-reality. What the micro-nap does is it kind of walks the line of both, so it allows you to blur reality and the dream world, and get some great scares out of it. It is one of the plot points that really made the movie an exciting thing for us to pursue.” We definitely think they took some BOLD creative choices with the story, but we’re DEFINITELY going to check it out – it’s about time someone did a remake right!! What do U think?? Are U excited for the revamped Nightmare ??
